FAQs

What make / model is it?

It is a Benimar Mileo 282. Based on a Fiat Ducato van chassis.

Is it automatic or manual?

It is a 6-speed manual.

Is it Petrol or Diesel?

It runs on Diesel.

What configuration is the vehicle?

This is a “rear lounge” layout but has an additional lounge / table area at the front immediately behind the cab. Both the drivers and passenger seats can swivel round 180 degrees. The 2 double beds are lowered down from the ceiling when in use (they lower electronically) and are accessed via a small stepladder.

How many people does it sleep?

It has 4 belted seats and is designed to sleep upto 4 adults across 2 double electric beds which come down from the ceiling. The beds also feature safety nets for children.

Is there a mileage limit?

No, you can drive as many miles as you like within your hire period.

Do I need a C1 license to drive the motorhome?

No. Our max weight is 3500kg so it can be driven on any standard EU / UK manual license.

Do I need my own insurance to drive the motorhome?

No, the motorhome is fully comprehensively insured on a self-drive policy by ourselves, provided you meet the criteria below with regards to age and license.

Is there a minimum age to rent the motorhome?

Our insurance covers drivers aged 25 to 75.

What other license limitations are there?

We can only rent to drivers who:

  • who have held a UK or EU license for at least 3 years
  • have not had their licence suspended for any period within the last three years.
  • have not been involved in more than one fault incident within the last three years.
  • have no more than two convictions with a maximum of 3 points per conviction.
  • have not obtained a BA (Disqualification) ,DD (Dangerous Driving) or UT (Theft) conviction

Can we tow a car behind the motorhome?

No sorry. The motorhome is not designed nor rated for that.

Is there a TV?

Yes we have a smart digital TV. Signal is not guaranteed however, it would depend where you are going. There is also an Amazon Firestick which you are free to access with your own account.

Does it have wifi?

We have a 4G wifi router which you can connect your personal devices for unlimited streaming. This also connects to the Firestick / TV. Like the TV, signal coverage is not guaranteed however.

Can I leave my car with you?

Absolutely! The motorhome is stored on a secure official motorhome storage facility (CaSSOA Gold standard) which is fully fenced and gated, has 24hr patrols, is fully covered by CCTV and has strict entry / exit procedures (you can only enter with a keyfob linked to a photograph). You can leave your car there whilst you take the motorhome however we have to point out we are not responsible for loss or damage should you take this option.

Can it be rented in Winter?

Yes. We offer year-round rentals.

Is there a Sat Nav?

Yes there is a built-in Sat Nav system but it will not warn of any roads / bridges not suitable for the motorhome so please plan your route very carefully – if in doubt, take another route!

Is there a reversing camera and reversing sensors?

Yes, both are installed on the motorhome. But we would still recommend you get a fellow passenger to assist you in reversing into and pulling out of spaces / campsite pitches.

Do you accept pets?

Unfortunately as we use the vehicle ourselves and our young daughter has allergies it’s not possible to bring pets along with you, as much as we love them!

Is there a security deposit?

Yes. We take a £700 deposit before you take the motorhome which is fully refundable as soon as the vehicle is returned with no damage / issues.

What other documents do you require?

Before the booking commences we require:

  • Copies of all driver’s licenses
  • Copy of 2 utility bills dated within three months of the hire to confirm home address
Can I take the motorhome overseas?

Given the current UK travel restrictions our insurance would not cover a trip outside the UK but should this change we shall advise.

What is the minimum hire period?

3 nights is the minimum rental period.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that sometimes plans can change. If you need to cancel your booking, provided this is communicated to us more than 4 weeks before your scheduled departure date, we would only retain the £200 deposit. For cancellations made 2 – 4 weeks before your booking, we would retain 50% of the total booking cost. Cancellations within 1 week of departure would unfortunately force us to keep 100% of the booking cost.

Is there is an awning?

Yes we have a Thule manual winding awning which is simple to operate. Note that the purpose of the awning is to use as a sun shade. It is NOT load bearing, it should not be used in extreme rain or wind conditions and should be retracted overnight and should always be pegged down with the pegs provider.

What happens with fuel?

The vehicle will be filled with diesel when you collect it. Please return it full (there is a BP garage right next to the storage facility). If we have to fill ourselves we will have to charge for the cost of filling the vehicle up plus a £25 refueling charge which will be deducted from your £700 security deposit.

Do you provide cutlery?

Yes. We provide plenty of cutlery, glasses etc. We even include tea and coffee and maybe some further goodies! If you have children please let us know and we can include child-friendly plastic plates, bowls, cutlery.

Do you provide bedding?

Yes all bedding is included. At the end of the hire if you can please place this in a black plastic bag along with the tea towels so we can easily get it cleaned it would be most appreciated.

Do you provide bathroom towels?

We kindly request that you provide your own bathroom towels.

Do you provide washing up liquid, toilet rolls, cleaning products, rubbish bags etc.?

Yes

Do you provide tables and chairs?

We have a full size table and up to 4 adult chairs – you can add these to your booking upon request for no additional charge.

Do you have any children’s items such as highchairs?

We have an Ikea high chair, a lightweight stroller and a kids table with 2 chairs. These are suitable for small children – you can add these to your booking upon request for no additional charge.

Can the vehicle take children’s car seats?

Yes but it is not compatible with Isofix. We have 2 Cosatto seats available – one for an infant and one for a child. These fix to the seats using the seatbelts. You can add these to your booking upon request for no additional charge. Alternatively you can use your own provided they are compatible (ie can be fixed in place using seat belts).

Is gas included?

Yes there will be 2 gas bottles to use with at least 1 full one. Should one run out you can connect the 2nd back-up one. Instructions will be provided in your handover. Should the gas run out and you require more it is your responsibility to exchange a bottle at your cost and any unused gas at the end of your trip will remain with the bottle / vehicle with no credit or refund due to you.

What do I do with the chemical toilet?

This must be emptied at the site before you return the vehicle. The chemicals are provided. Instructions will be provided in your handover.

What do I do about water?

There will likely be some fresh water in the tanks but it is advised to fill up at the water point on site rather than travel with a full water tank. You are advised to empty the grey water tank (ie waste water run off from the sinks / shower) at the site upon your departure. Note we do not recommend the use of the fresh water for drinking unless it has been boiled / sterilised.

Can I take the motorhome “off grid”?

Yes you can however it is strongly recommended that if you are inexperienced with motorhoming you undertake a lot of research beforehand as you will need to consider things like how long the battery, gas bottles and fresh water will last and where you can safely and legally dispose of the chemical toilet waste, waste water and general waste / rubbish. It’s not very easy for us to give guidelines on this as the usage will depend on number of passengers and your habits. You will also need to consider where you can legally park up for the night as not all places permit this.

I’ve never driven a motorhome before. Is it difficult?

Like anything attempted for the first time it can seem daunting at first, however if you take it slowly, use the large mirrors, reversing camera, sensors, get assistance from your passengers when maneuvering in and out of any tight or congested spaces and obey all speed limits and traffic regulations you will be in a good position!

What are the dimensions of the motorhome?

7.40m long, 2.89m high and 2.3m wide. You may need these when booking a pitch at a campsite and of course the height needs to be considered when going under bridges. We include a quick reference placard in the driver’s sunvisor showing all the dimensions for you to easily refer to when driving.

What happens in the event of a breakdown?

In the highly unlikely event this happens, we have a full RAC breakdown policy. Call them on 0333 2000 999 24hrs a day. Also please let us know as soon as possible on 07887249984 / 07545057912 or via email info@homeontheroadrentals.co.uk

What happens in the event of an accident or theft?

Hopefully this will never happen but please call the local Police and let us know immediately on 07887249984 / 07545057912 or via email info@homeontheroadrentals.co.uk and also call the insurance provider on 0344 705 8183. There is also a tracker fitted for peace of mind.
